Gabriele Pardi, a Tuscan architect born in 1966, and Laura Fiaschi, a designer and graphic decorator from Carrara, have opened their gumdesign studio in Viareggio in 1999. They deal with architecture, industrial product designs, graphics and art direction for companies and events.

Their present and past clients include such important brands as: Yoox Net-a-Porter, Fiat, Max&Co, Mercedes-Benz, Venice’s Biennale, Milan’s Triennale, De Castelli, De Vecchi Milano 1935, Friul Mosaic, Il Casone, Lavazza, Martinelli Luce, Museo Pecci, Napapijri, Nastro Azzurro, Red Bull Italia, San Pellegrino, Swarovski Italia.
Over the years, they have been awarded a number of international prizes in architecture, design and graphics competitions; their projects are exhibited in the permanent collections of several museums, such as: Milan’s Triennale, Shanghai’s Glass Museum and San Francisco’s MoMa. Between 2009 and 2016, they have been selected four times for the Compasso d’Oro award, ADI Design Index, in the “Business Research”, “Graphics” and “Design” sections.

One of their major projects is “La casa di pietra” (Stone House), a travelling exhibition born in 2014 and awarded a great number of prizes and acknowledgments, including the Best Communicator Award 2014 for design. The project aims at reviving the primordial culture of home living by using stone as a symbolic starting point for its rediscovery.

Within the university, they deliver lectures and hold workshops cooperating with the Free University of Bolzano, Milan’s Cried, Florence’s and Rome’s IED, Pisa’s University, Lucca’s Celsius, Genoa’s Faculty of Architecture, and the Faculty of Engineering in Trento. Since 2017 they are coordinating and teaching the first Master in Design – Innovation and Products for High Craftsmanship at Florence’s IED.
