Originally from a small village in Puglia, Antonio Russo began to work at a very young age in a small woodworking workshop in the Bergamo area. He then returned to the village of his birth to open a workshop of his own, which has been active for over 40 years. For some years now, the cabinet maker has become specialized in working olive wood: it was a love that came into being by chance one evening, like a bolt out of the blue, as he watched a trunk of olive wood burn in the fireplace. This material, which Antonio believes has a soul, requires a special way of working, with a transversal cut, instead of horizontal, like other types of wood. In his workshop he also creates inlaid elements, such as chessboards, frames and ornamental panels, where the veins of olive wood are entwined with the geometric figures of the decorative motifs.
