Tommaso De Carlo is an artist and an interior decorator. For years, he worked as an apprentice with the best Florentine masters, refining techniques like carving, engraving, painting, gilding and polychromy.
A strong supporter of the importance of a close relationship with clients to understand their tastes and demands, he creates his works pursuing authenticity and beauty, and draws his inspiration from the Florentine artistic culture and from ancient traditional techniques. To this day, he prepares the colours for his works in his own atelier in Florence’s Vecchio Conventino, using natural pigments and other natural materials.
De Carlo creates wallpapers, floors, and furniture items based on classic and renaissance patterns, refreshed and made up-to-date by an accurate creative research and his unique language.

I met Tommaso De Carlo at the "Conventino", an area on the outskirts of Oltrarno, where only a few real artisans continue pursuing their trades after the awful restoration wanted by Florence's Municipality, which, a few years ago, wiped out a century-old history of work and traditions. Along with his wife and children, Tommaso creates beautiful objects, both elegant and very useful, besides being an excellent decorator. All the presents I bought from him have been greatly appreciated, among others by the Italian President Emeritus Giorgio Napolitano!
