Alice Zanin

Papier-mâché poetry

Alice Zanin, born in 1987 in Piacenza, has been developing a personal research practice in papier-mâché since 2012, a technique she learned and refined as a self-taught artist until it became the core of her artistic and artisanal practice. Her work is rooted in the observation of the animal world, the primary subject of a sculptural production that explores the expressive possibilities of paper as a structural, rather than merely decorative, material. Through the use of papier-mâché on internal iron armatures, Zanin creates works characterised by exceptional lightness and technical complexity, capable of challenging the traditional idea of sculpture as a massive and static object.

Over the years, the artist has refined an increasingly meticulous technique, gradually abandoning the visible use of printed paper in favour of surfaces created through painterly interventions and sophisticated mosaics of carefully selected papers arranged according to precise chromatic harmonies.

While maintaining sculpture as her primary language, her research has progressively evolved towards an installation-based dimension.

Her works have been presented in important national and international venues, including the Triennale di Milano and Palazzo della Permanente in Milan, the Marino Marini Museum in Florence, and the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi. A finalist in international awards such as the Combat Prize (2014) and the Arteam Cup (2016), in 2018 she was included by Exibart among the 222 emerging Italian artists to invest in. Her works are now part of public and private collections in Italy and abroad.
