Elena Bardella is a master luthier from Cremona, her hometown, where she also trained professionally. In 1984 she graduated at the “Istituto Internazionale di Liuteria Antonio Stradivari” (Antonio Stradivari International Institute of Lutherie) under the guidance of master luthier Giorgio Cè. Coming from a family of craftsmen and inspired by her parents’ passion for music and manual skills, Elena Bardella knew from a very young age that she wanted to pursue lutherie. At only 13, she visited Francesco Bissolotti’s workshop and it was a turning point for her: since then, Elena embarked on a path that at the time was mainly male-dominated, with enthusiasm and determination. Today, and for almost 30 years now, in her workshop she builds violas, violins and cellos inspired by 18th Century classical lutherie, reinterpreted according to her own experience and the needs of each musician. She also takes care of setting up stringed instruments and teaches lutherie and varnishing techniques in the same school where she studied.
