Born in Mantua in 1975, Guido Mariotto attended the workshop of his father Gianni Mariotto from an early age, learning the basics of lutherie under his guidance. After high school, he devoted himself to making and restoring double-basses and cellos full-time, an activity which he still carries on today in his workshop in Porto Mantovano.
In order to perfect his technique and use of the tools, he attended Gianni Massagrande’s carving and sculpture workshop, while also learning the secrets of viola and violin-making, under the guidance of Mario Gadda, a master from Mantua from whom he still draws inspiration today in the production of his instruments.
He received several prizes and accolades, including many honourable mentions and silver and gold medals at the various editions of the “Antonio Stradivari” International Lutherie Competition, as well as the Stauffer Award for best instrument in the acoustic section (2021). His instruments are played in the best Italian and international orchestras, from Venice, Milan and Paris to Berlin and Tokyo.
