Artinterra is a project by Sergio Germanà, a weaver with great craftsmanship experience, specialized in vegetal fibres. In Sasso Marconi, near Bologna, he creates handbags and hats in dwarf palm, fishing nets and lamps, willow and reeds baskets, as well as olive wood cutting boards.
Born and raised in the countryside and fascinated by the rural world, from a very young age he experimented with his hands, learning various craft techniques, particularly that of weaving, thanks to a local master basket maker. Sergio thus became heir to a trade which nowadays is rapidly disappearing: today he weaves his creations applying patterns strongly connected with the land, fishing and pastoral farming of Sicily and other areas of the world. He has indeed travelled between Africa, India and Iran in order to discover and keep these countries’ traditional techniques alive, and thanks to this knowledge he hand-crafts truly unique objects.
