Founded in the second half of the 19th century in the Brianza region, Bottega Ghianda stands as one of the finest expressions of Italian cabinetmaking, renowned and appreciated worldwide. Originally focused on the production of inlaid parquet flooring, the company later specialized in crafting furniture and decorative objects, distinguished by its artisanal excellence and meticulous attention to detail.

A major turning point came in the 1970s, when Pierluigi Ghianda—affectionately known as the “poet of wood”—led the workshop to international acclaim. Under his direction, Bottega Ghianda entered a golden age of collaborations with some of the most celebrated designers of the time, including Gae Aulenti, Cini Boeri, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Gio Ponti, Richard Sapper, Ettore Sottsass, Matteo Thun, and many others.

In 2015, shortly before Pierluigi Ghianda’s passing, entrepreneur Romeo Sozzi—founder and designer of the Promemoria brand—took over the company, determined to carry forward its legacy. Under his guidance, Bottega Ghianda continues to explore the poetry of wood through artisanal knowledge, keeping alive a tradition that speaks to the needs of the present while looking boldly to the future.

In 2024, the Farfallina chair, designed by Álvaro Siza and produced by Bottega Ghianda, was awarded the prestigious Compasso d’Oro, a testament to the enduring value and creative vitality of this artisanal workshop.
