Roberto Donà is a Murano-based blacksmith: first opened in Murano by his grandfather Carlo and operative on the island since 1923, the foundry constructs specialised tools for craftsmen and glassworkers in Venice, Italy and abroad: tools for furnaces, blowpipes, paddies, tweezers, pincers, and stamps. The knowhow of the Donà workshop has been passed down through generations: at the end of the 1800s Carlo’s father Beniamino was already a renowned blacksmith in the laguna. Over the years, the workshop has been commissioned by important companies operative in the glass working industry, as well as internationally renowned artists and thus it has made an important contribution to the evolution of artistic glassmaking on the island of Murano. Today, the business is managed by Roberto, the grandson of Carlo, the fourth generation of blacksmiths and testimony of a century serving the needs of master glassmakers on the island.
