Martha Pachón Rodríguez is a Colombian-born ceramist, heir to the Afro-Caribbean and Andean culture of her home country. For more than twenty years she has lived and worked in Italy, in Fognano di Brisighella (Ravenna), in the Apennine hills near Faenza. She trained in Education and Fine Arts at the Universidad Surcolombiana in Neiva. In Colombia she then spent a decade teaching art education, ceramics for sculpture, colour theory and textile design. In Italy she specialised in stoneware and porcelain at the G. Ballardini Institute of Ceramic Art in Faenza, and later deepened her study of porcelain in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, China and Japan. She co-founded and directed the Faenza Ceramic Art Center.

Today she works mainly in sculptural porcelain. In her work, her Latin American roots meet Mediterranean culture and the painting of Giotto and the Baroque, from pre-Columbian textile motifs to the colours of the Andes and the Caribbean. Her series include Sein-oursin and Floating Worlds, as well as the light installations Mantello Nuziale, Medusa and Giardino d’acqua, which bring out the translucency and sound of the material. Her work I pizzi impudici won First Prize at the international ceramics exhibition in Andenne, Belgium. It consists of thirteen porcelain “boats” decorated with screen-printed decals of antique lace given to her by women from Fognano.

She is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics and has taken part in exhibitions and artist residencies across Europe and Asia. She is featured in the Homo Faber Guide (Michelangelo Foundation), and in 2024 Fondazione Cologni awarded her the title of MAM – Maestro d’Arte e Mestiere.
