Born in 1986, Pierfrancesco Solimene belongs to a generation of young craftsmen engaged in infusing new lifeblood into the tradition of ceramics. Everything began with his great-grandfather Vincenzo Solimene, who became famous in his village for the speed with which he made his pieces. It was his son Francesco, a real master craftsman, who created the brand. Since then three generations of craftsmen have followed on, until Pierfrancesco. He has developed a personal style inspired by the research of his grandfather, who gave his vases an archetypal and primitive flavour. The collections of bottles, plates and bowls stand out for an attentive study of the materials and surfaces: simple and deliberately unfinished shapes which recall fossils, simple designs that recall the biomorphic world.

And there we are in Vietri, between iodum and ceramics is wonderful Pierfrancesco Solimene and his workshop. A young artisan who has been able to create a personal, textured style, yet drawing inspiration from the typical majolica of the Costiera Amalfitana. He made the technique his own, and turned it into a personal research of pottery and pigments, thus shaping such an alive, grainy and authentic matter - jus like he is.

Young Pierfrancesco Solimene belongs to the groudbreaking part of his family, who are renowned ceramists from Vietri sul Mare. His approach is fresh and new, yet inspired by Vietri’s typical medieval-style colours and glazes. He runs courses and workshops and regularly participates in international events and fairs together with his team. His atelier is in Cava dè Tirreni, close to Vietri. For Hands on Design he makes design pieces of impressive formal visual impact, as well as innovative in shape.
