After a career as a sailor, in 1989 Antonio Sanna decided to turn his hand to working as a master shipwright, learning the ancient craft at the Boggiu shipyard in Carloforte on the Island of San Pietro in South-West Sardinia. Today ‘Tonino’ is the last master shipwright working on the island, and still designs and makes latin-rig yachts, using traditional methods.
In his boatyard he builds hand-crafted wooden leisure craft, makes masts, yards and blocks, creates boat interiors, restores teak and iroko decks, overhauls boats up to 10 metres long and restores classic and antique yachts. He also rents yachts with a skipper to tour the island.
There are various types of boat in his boatyard, including some typical to Sardinia. More than a job, his is an art. He likes to become friends with his customers, and aims to satisfy in full all their needs and requirements.
