Casarossa Tinctoria is a project by Gabriella De Donno, an architect with a deep respect for the environment and a great passion for all things handmade.
Almost by chance, as a result of her allergy to synthetic textiles, she started studying the process of naturally dyeing fabrics using plant-based elements, first only in theory and then in practice, in her home-workshop in Lecce.
Experiment after experiment, she learned how to extract dyes from the elements the Earth offers, and how to use them to dye robes, kimonos and other clothes, all exclusively in pure silk.
Strictly abiding by ancient techniques, she is able to create genuinely astonishing nuances and colours. For Gabriella, each dye bath is a new emotion: in this craft, nature and creativity work together, just like a charm.

In Puglia l’architetta Gabriella De Donno ha creato una linea di sottovesti in pura seta italiana tinte da lei con i frutti della natura, un procedimento laborioso e lungo, che sfrutta la sola energia solare. Caffè, tè, tisane e noce (foglie e mallo), uva, melograni, la menta del suo giardino, fiori vari e per l’indaco il guado coltivato nelle Marche. Gli ingredienti sono fatti macerare, si prepara un decotto, si filtra, e la seta precedentemente mordenzata si immerge nel pentolone fumante. E poi si gira… si rigira… e il tessuto prende colore, senza fretta, ogni bagno è una magia e la differenza di tono e sfumatura ispira Gabriella sul modello da creare, sempre unico e irripetibile. Una visita nel suo atelier è d’obbligo.
