Since she was a child Juliana Kara Gatt has been fascinated by jewellery making and so she studied design technique and production of jewellery in two prestigious North American universities. She then consolidated her skills working in leading jewellery companies and then departed for Sri Lanka to perfect her skills in gem cutting with local master craftsmen. Today she manages her own team under the brand Kallira which makes splendid hand-crafted jewellery also using a newly patented technique for setting gemstones that creates the illusion that the gem “floats” without any supporting structure: in reality, the stone is held in place by transparent quartz or sapphire which are strong but light materials. All gemstones are bought uncut in their countries of origin and then hand cut in the laboratory while all precious metals are Italian produced.
