Saverio Pastor trained under the last Venetian master remèri or oar makers, Giuseppe Carli and Gino Fossetta. In 2002 he opened his own workshop Le Forcole, specialised in the construction of oars and forcole for Venetian gondolas and following the traditional techniques stemming from the Renaissance. Over the last centuries, forcole have taken on ever more complex forms to improve their manoeuvrability and efficiency when rowing, but due to their elegance and originality, some have become true decorative elements for interiors. Experiments are conducted in the workshop on different forms and materials, and all products can be personalised according to the client’s taste and constructed using prized Italian woods such as walnut, cherry and maple. The workshop also produces various furnishing elements and decorative ornaments inspired by Venetian tradition.
