Relight Venice

Relight Venice is the project of Michela Bortolozzi, a Venetian designer who has created an atelier where she sells candles and other handcrafted objects inspired by the lagoon city. Customers visiting the atelier can choose from various types of creations, entirely made in-house such as waxes or the result of collaboration with other Venetian craftsmen such as jewellery, and get involved in the designer’s narration explaining her contemporary approach to the world of craftsmanship and communication. In Relight Venice products, an artistic intention is revealed that aims to make people reflect on Venice and the impact of tourism and modernity on its most authentic life. Thus, the candles reproducing symbols and icons of the Serenissima are made with soy wax and recycled wax from Venetian churches; the wooden bases are modelled from the scraps of the forcole factory; the hand-chiselled brass brooches represent the animals of the lagoon and form the ‘I Residenti’ (the inhabitants) collection, an ironic name that refers to the theme of the depopulation of the city. There is no shortage of experiences organised by Relight Venice: simple demonstrations of the creation of the brand’s most iconic candles or workshops in which customers can make their own creative contribution and bring the shapes of their imagination to life.
