Alab’Arte is a workshop where a valuable tradition is carried forward, that of alabaster workmanship, typical of Volterra due to the presence of local open quarries where the precious stone is extracted.
The workshop is located in the historic centre, and is the last remaining company still working with this material: today as in the past, the same tools of the trade are used here, as well as the same plaster models.
The production focuses on craft quality rather than quantity: each piece is unique in every detail, and is rigorously handmade and hand-finished.
For the last 25 years Alab’Arte has been creating amazing works of art, from the creation of plaster models all the way to the actual sculptures; but they also craft furnishings, lighting fixtures and modern design objects. Lastly, they also reproduce classical pieces upon request, all in real alabaster, paying meticulous attention to the authenticity of the raw materials. Guided tours are also available.
