Antonio Dattis is a master luthier, cabinetmaker and restorer.
He approached the trade at a very young age, learning the basics of woodworking as a shop boy inside a carpenter’s workshop, and later as an apprentice to a master restorer and cabinetmaker. Thus he began to craft his first musical instruments, experimenting with traditional lutherie techniques. He finally completed his training at Alfredo Baroni’s lutherie workshop, in Taranto.
Today, in his workshop in Sava, near Taranto, he crafts stringed and plucked instruments. Thanks to his formidable manual skills, he is able to restore extremely elaborate antique instruments as well as making replicas or original creations. He focuses mainly on medieval, Renaissance and Baroque plucked instruments, such as lutes, archlutes, theorbs, guitars and mandolins, even using rare materials such as mammoth’s ivory.
He showcased his work all over the world and was awarded prestigious international accolades.
