Atelier Volante is Sofia’s craft project: born and raised in Venice, inside her family’s craft workshop dedicated to papier-mâché masks, today she carries on this now lesser-known technique, giving life to wearable creations or home decors.
She alternates between creating typical classic artefacts and searching for a more contemporary language, but without betraying the traditional materials and processing techniques. The results are actual “three-dimensional illustrations”, entirely made out of paper with great attention to sustainability, combining traditional papier-mâché techniques with more innovative methods involving reclaimed materials. Each piece is hand-modeled, according to a philosophy that focuses on attention to detail and slow processing as a way of rediscovering the values and beauty of an authentically hand-crafted production.
