The history of the Barbini family began and developed hand in hand with the tradition of Venetian mirrors, which dates back to the 16th century. After a long period of neglect, in 1927 Nicolò Barbini rediscovered the ancient craft and passed it on to his sons Vincenzo and Giovanni, who turned it into a modern, avant-garde business.
Their traditional and modern style mirrors add lustre to prestigious buildings, hotels and homes all over the world, and feature in many art exhibitions. Their fine engraving and cutting techniques
and colour and shape combinations have always been their hallmark. With the help of their children, the Barbini brothers personally carry out every stage of production – design, cutting, engraving, silver-plating (and the special antique finish stages this involves) and assembly.
The company also works with international artists and designers.

The Barbinis, together with their collaborators, are “specieri” (mirror makers), as well as keepers of the ancient tradition of Murano glass mirror making. What impressed me the most was the blending of tradition and contemporary production, with the latter carried on mainly by the youngest generation. Besides silvering, the Barbinis are real masters of decoration, engraving and shaped cutting of the glass.
