Recommended by: MARIA LAURA BERLINGUER

Maria Giuliana Collu is from Assemini, the cradle of important Sardinian potters and ceramicists. In the workshop of her uncles who were experts craftsmen, she learned the technique of working with clay. She continued her training by attending courses by great masters of the trade and then opened her own workshop in Selargius where she still works. She creates furnishing elements and sculptures entirely hand-crafted and using different coloured clay and glazes. Her forms are inspired by archaic and prehistoric symbols, the colours of the sea and the textures of the earth and nature: irregular lines are modelled instinctively in her quest for a natural geometry. She has participated in many national and international exhibitions and fairs and has also been awarded various prizes and recognition for her works.

Giuliana Collu turns clay into poetry, blending Nuragic symbols with oceanic visions. A native of Assemini, she grew up among the skilled hands of her family’s potters and now creates works that capture the spirit of her island—its archaeology, nature, and memory. In her studio, I cocci di Giuliana Collu in Selargius, ceramics come to life through bold experimentation, handcrafted glazes, and global influences—like her artistic dialogue with Japanese ceramicist Hiroe Soma.
