Piedaterre is a brand of Venetian “furlane”, the typical footwear worn by gondoliers, which have lately become fashionable again thanks to their simple elegance and comfort.
Their renaissance is due to Alessandra and Renato, who started creating and selling them again in their charming shop close to Ponte di Rialto, retrieving an old tradition and projecting it into the future.
Their manufacture started back in the 1950s, combining ancient craft techniques, a variety of fabrics and styles, and the culture of recycling: besides standard materials, old bicycle tyres are employed to produce soles, while the fabric of jute sacks are used for stuffing and waste rags for uppers.
The beauty of furlane is a narrative for the city’s history and culture, seducing tourists worldwide.
