Simone Taddei is a master leather worker. Near Dante’s Home, right in the heart of Florence, is his “Bottega Artigiana del Cuoio” (Craft Leather Workshop): in this workshop he gives life to boxes and jewellery boxes, cigar cases and other luxury accessories, as well as the obligatory typical coin purse called “tacco Fiorentino”, using only craft processing techniques.
A family tradition that began with his great-grandfather in 1937, and has now entered its fourth generation of master leather craftsmen. Simone learned the trade from his grandfather and father, managing to preserve and carry on their knowledge of ancient techniques.
Harnessing this know-how, the craftsman decided to start a small production of leather goods, particularly appreciated for the detailed handiwork. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and requires up to 32 steps to be made: Simone personally selects top-quality leather, sourcing it directly from tanneries; the material is later cut and processed onto wooden forms, then treated and lastly dyed and polished with natural varnishes. The resulting objects are endowed with rare and refined beauty.
