Already when a child, Salvatore Ferrante showed a strong passion for drawing: he then started to practice with oils, and later worked as a wood craftsman specialised in restoration.
For some years now, he has worked in his own workshop SoterusArt in Torrita di Siena where he makes his “picture-sculptures”: decorative relief paintings and panels made by assembling various hand-painted pieces of wood. His works are distinctive for their surprising variety and brilliant colours: each work is a one-off piece and created with extreme technical precision and patience, using natural resins and colours made on the premises by the artist. His work starts from a sketch on paper which is then transferred onto wood; then he cuts, sands and colours each piece which are then assembled and mounted in a frame also made by the artist.
