Umberto Dattola is a sculptor and interior designer. In his workshop in Ome, near Brescia, he creates furnishings and home decors in a modern style, mainly using wood, but more importantly his hands, thus taking care of each step of the artefact’s making, from designing to finishing.
Particularly renowned and original are his suspended creations, actual “flying” sculptures, depicting houses, cities and other urban landscapes, onto which he often applies golden, silver or bronze leaf, adding a metallic and precious effect.
Umberto firmly believes that function, even as a pretext, is necessary: thus, in his work, he shapes matter creating objects that, first and foremost, have a practical function, but also serve an aesthetic purpose, to create beauty and spark wonder.
