Vanessa Milan opened her workshop in Venice in 2022: an atelier where she uses art printing techniques to create unique works, books and other paper artefacts.
In her small workshop in Dorsoduro, Vanessa creates limited edition engravings and serigraphies following an instinctive and experimental approach and she also produces prints and hand-bindings of small independent book series, as well as commissioned illustrations.
Her artistic research is combined with historical research: the landscapes of the Venetian Lagoon are her first source of inspiration, as is the history of its islands and inhabitants.
The blue tones of her creations blend with the delicate pink of the hydrographic maps, recounting the Lagoon scenarios most experienced and loved by Venetians.
Before opening her Venetian workshop, she worked on several print and illustration projects, such as the posters for the ‘Esterno Notte’ and ‘Estate al Cinema’ film festivals.
Vanessa is also co-founder of Doppiofondo, an engraving studio in Venice, she created the independent publishing project ‘Edizioni DoppioFondo’, and she co-founded the magazine ‘Alcolid/:19’.
Furthermore, her artistic research is combined with her commitment to social work, collaborating with various associations in the field of mental health and rehabilitation paths in prisons.
