Domenico Marchese is a master luthier.
He first approached the craft at only 10 years old in the family workshop, first under the guidance of his grandfather, then his father: still a child, he thus learned how to make his first musical instruments. Over time, his interest in music grew, as did his experience in lutherie: in the following years he learned the techniques for plucked instruments making, from classical to electric guitars, from ukuleles to lutes, all the way to more peculiar and rare instruments such as the bouzuki, balalaika and lyre.
Now after over 40 years of activity, in his workshop in Palermo he also offers repair services and antique instruments restoration, as well as providing replicas of original instruments or custom designs on commission. While he abides by the ancient tradition of the trade, in fact, Domenico loves to innovate and experiment. He also devotes himself to the creation of musical-themed wooden ornaments and tiny sculptures, such as clocks in the shape of a treble clef or a musical note.
