Artilab is Donatella Baruzzi’s ceramic workshop.
Born in Milan, after graduating from Art School she went on to study at Brera’s Academy of Fine Arts. Later, she learned the secrets of ceramics in Faenza, under the guidance of Emidio Galassi, Giovanni Cimatti and Mirco Denicolò. Her father Glauco, painter and fresco expert, was also an important mentor of hers, alongside whom she worked for many years. Since the late Nineties, she devoted herself mainly to ceramic and porcelain. Today, she crafts one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces, either prototypes or limited series collections, and creations upon commission: her sculptures are either pure artworks, often decorated with graphic or three-dimensional elements, or decorative and functional elements such as small tables or tiles, columns or terracotta lamps, portraits or bas-reliefs.
A production where the choice of originally paired colours and materials, such as ceramics and fabrics, and the combination of inventiveness and technical skill allow her to achieve a harmonious expressive balance. She also holds pottery classes in her studio.
