In Florence, in the historic craft workshop district, we find the fine art printing workshop L’Ippogrifo, founded by Gianni Raffaelli in 1976 with the intention of giving life to a studio dedicated to the research and production of artistic engravings. Today the atelier is still run by Gianni together with his wife Francesca and son Duccio.
In this workshop they create original artistic prints with the ancient etching technique, as well as chalcographies and custom designs; each piece is first engraved manually on copper plates, then printed on premium paper in limited editions. Later, each print is hand-coloured, signed and numbered by the author, as was customary in Florence’s historic workshops. The atelier often hosts guided tours where students and enthusiasts can admire their craft process and their collection of artworks on display. For over 40 years L’Ippogrifo has been promoting this important tradition, showcasing their artistic graphic works at local and international fairs and exhibitions.
