After graduating in Oriental Languages from Ca Foscari in Venice, Elisabetta Mason started her activity as a gilder in 1986, following in the footsteps of her father Luciano, one of the most renowned master gilders in Venice and present in the Laguna since the 1940s. Under his guidance, she was trained in the traditional techniques and ancient processes involved in the art of gilding, thus becoming a keeper of skills held only by a few maestri.
In her workshop in Santa Croce, Elisabetta carries out interventions on gilding, lacquering and restoration of objects in wood, plaster or other materials. She restores priceless splendour to frames, incisions and decorative elements for Venetian gondolas. She also gives courses in her workshop on gilding techniques such as gouache and oil gilding.
