Poterie is a craft tile workshop located in Genoa’s historical city centre. The atelier was founded in 1981 by siblings Marcella and Valerio Diotto, who specialize in designing and creating craft tiles for walls, floors and claddings for historical or private buildings. Each tile is hand-painted in the various typical styles and techniques of traditional ceramics and each project is rigorously made-to-measure and one-of-a-kind. Their signature style includes pictorial renditions of views and landscapes, traditional motifs inspired by Genoa’s seafaring history or patterns echoing existing decorations within the room itself. The processing is curated down to the very last detail, and glazes and colours are always specially made. These creations are complemented by the masters’ interest in researching the city’s historical coats of arms and creating replicas of 17th Century’s Genoese “Laggioni” applying the ancient “cuenca y aristas” decorative technique, still visible in some palaces’ ornaments in the historical city centre.
