Sandra Schaffner began her artistic career in Santiago de Chile, where she worked for three years in an experimental ceramics workshop, an experience that greatly influenced her conception of the atelier.
Upon her return to Italy, she further refined her expertise by collaborating with distinguished Italian ceramists, specialising in traditional Chinese painting techniques and glaze formulation. Subsequently, she established her own workshop in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, near Florence. Nestled in the Tuscan hills, her atelier serves as a hub for research and experimentation. Here, the ceramist meticulously designs and modifies her pieces, formulates glazes using locally sourced raw materials and ashes of native plants, and holds ceramics classes. Drawing on her experience in South America, Sandra Schaffner has made this space a place where creativity, passion and care meet.
Raised in the Tuscan countryside and fascinated by the landscapes of her homeland, the ceramist is inspired by the forms of nature to create her works. The decorations are executed freehand, and are based on a personal interpretation of motifs from Chinese and Japanese painting.
The artist’s commitment to artisanal excellence is further demonstrated by the fact that she personally crafts the tools she requires, meticulously following each stage of the creation process, and dedicating herself to the handcrafted production of decorative and utilitarian objects that embody harmony, simplicity, and refinement.
