Silvia Piani is an artist and ceramist.
After studying at Faenza’s “Istituto d’Arte per la Ceramica” (Ceramic Art Institute) and later at the “ISIA” (Superior Institute for Artistic Trades), in 2020 she opened her artistic ceramic workshop in Imola, in the province of Bologna.
Today she crafts spectacular sculptures, mainly portraying fish and other marine creatures bright in colour and rich in detail.
Her practice is defined by continuous research and innovation, mainly when it comes to materials: besides clay, she uses unconventional components rarely utilized in the ceramic field, such as glass, frits and grits, which in Silvia’s work become no longer mere claddings, but decorative elements able to create striking contrasts and textured surfaces.
Standing out for a strong expressiveness and capable of sparking wonder, awe and strong emotional responses, her artworks seem to have a soul of their own, and are the result of heart, mind and hands coming together.
