The textile cooperative Su Marmuri was founded in 1971 in Ulassai, with the clear intent of preserving the local ancient textile tradition. Today, this is Sardinia‘s oldest company, staffed solely by women. All their products are one of a kind pieces or limited series, entirely handmade on horizontal looms implementing the typical “a pibiones” technique. This is a typical Sardinian weaving method, used to create stitch relief decorations. Choosing only natural materials, such as local sheep wool, linen, cotton and silk, the lab produces carpets and tapestries, curtains, tablecloths, pillowcases and many more textile home décor complements. Su Marmuri crafts both traditional decorations and contemporary experimental patterns, while also collaborating with important artists such as Maria Lai, with whom the cooperative has consistently worked since 1981.

The textile cooperative Su Marmuri represents an excellence in the field of textile craftsmanship in the island. Constituted by Maria Deidda, Tiziana Sirigu, Melissa Vargiu, Angela Cannas, Maria Serrau, this company saw many generations come and go and has recently hit the joyful landmark of 50 years of activity. Their refined creations stand out for their high craftsmanship quality and sophisticated stylistic research. Their items are enriched by prestigious collaborations with designers and artists, first and foremost with Maria Lai, a famous and sensitive artist who designed for them an original production of carpets with a distinctive stylised goat motif, which over time became the signature symbol of Su Marmuri.
