In the village of Rima, in Piedmont region, the ancient tradition of artificial marble is kept alive – a technique to create realistic-looking marble using scagliola, a composite of gypsum with a polished surface of colored stone, very popular during the nineteenth century.
Simone Desirò, interior decorator apprenticed to the master Silvio Dellavedova, has been familiar with this technique since 2004, and reinterprets it in a contemporary key using traditional materials. Simone restores, designs and creates interiors and furnishings, exhibiting at prestigious events such as Milan Design Week. He also works with leading international designers, including Kelly Wearstler, Odd Matter Studio, Roberto Sironi e Sara Ricciardi.
Simone is a member of the Laboratorio Marmo Artificiale association in Rima and teaches Interior and Product Design at the IED (European Insitute of Design) in Turin.

Simone Desirò is a wonderful artisan, who is able to master the difficult art of Rima marble, which is a technique that simulates marble by using chalks and pigments. It is an ancient and hand-working technique, that gives mind-blowing formal results. In his workshop Simone, a man of great purity, creates incredible, sinuous shapes with wonderful chromatic combinations.

I met Simone Desirò for the first time in 2017, when we started to work together on the project “Ruins”. From the beginning, Simone demonstrated remarkable social skills, as well as a constant enthusiasm and commitment to the project that I have rarely found in other people. About his technical skills I don’t have much to say, his pieces speak for him: impeccable execution and great attention to detail make him a real master of Rima marble.
