Antica Stamperia Carpegna is a family craft workshop where they have been hand-printing on natural fabrics for as many as six generations, using the ancient technique of rust printing, a tradition typical to the territories of the Marche and Romagna regions.
The atelier is located in Carpegna, a small village near Pesaro and Urbino: here, they still use the same tools of the trade, such as hand-carved pear or walnut wood blocks, some of which date back to the mid-19th century, and the characteristic printing dye, created following the recipes of the past.
The ink is in fact created using wheat flour, wine vinegar and iron rust, the ingredient responsible for the distinctive reddish hue. The wood block is then soaked in the dye and pressed onto the fabric, resulting in beautiful and colourful textile complements.
This decoration is heat-resistant and indelible.
Alongside traditional patterns, they also print more innovative motifs upon request, and they also craft custom-made curtains and other textile home accessories.
