Lucio Liguori is a renowned ceramist and a leading expert of a famous family of craftsmen. After getting his diploma at Salerno’s Art School, he practised the trade working in the ceramic workshops of Vietri sul Mare, later opening his own atelier in Raito. His decorative and everyday use ceramics stand out for the use of deep colours and original geometric patterns. Being a great experimenter, he was the first one to introduce the raku technique in Vietri, while also enriching the local iconographic heritage by including abstract geometric decorations inspired by Escher and Guido Gambone. He won the prize “Viaggio attraverso la ceramica” (“A journey through ceramics”) in 1979 and he took part in Vallauris Ceramics Biennale in 2000. He was invited to artistic residency programmes, exhibitions and competitions in many Italian cities of the ceramic tradition and all around Europe.
