DESCRIPTION

The Circuit Artigianato Artistico FVG (FVG Artistic Craftsmanship Circuit) is the result of Confartigianato Udine’s effort to create a series of annual exhibitions meant to showcase the works of the best craftsmen of Friuli Venezia Giulia, with the collaboration of Elena Agosti, Wellmade ambassador and curator of these exhibitions since 2017. The exhibitions have been brought to life in cooperation with Confartigianato FVG, Trieste, Gorizia and Pordenone, with the support of CATA Artigianato FVG and Regione Autonoma Friuli Venezia Giulia, and under the umbrella of the International Charter of Artistic Craftsmanship.

The first major exhibition was in 2017, “Lo Splendore della Grande Venezia”, in collaboration with ViArt, and focused on the productive craft districts located in the hinterland of the Venetian Republic from the 18th century to the present day, told through the hands of 60 craftsmen from Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Later, other expositions followed: “Il Velo di Tisbe” (2018), where Ovid’s “Metamorphosis” and Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, were told through the works of 30 local craftsmen; “L’Artigian ingegno, Leonardo fra acqua e terra in Friuli” (2019), a tribute to Leonardo da Vinci in the 500th anniversary of his death, dedicated to folio 638 of the Codex Atlanticus and the hydraulic interventions in Friuli Venezia Giulia; “Otium et Negotium” (2020) focusing on craftsmanship as artistic creation and financial livelihood, with 43 craft businesses on display and a section dedicated to “Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli” (Friuli Mosaic School); “ESSERE V_MANO” (2021), on the development of manual skills, showcasing 55 local craftsmen, alongside a series of artworks created within the “DoppiaFirma” (Double Signature) project, sponsored by the Cologni Foundation for the Métiers d’Art, the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship and Living Corriere della Sera; “Le città invisibili” (2022), inspired by the eponymous novel by Italo Calvino, featuring 35 craft businesses. Most recently, Relazioni (2023), showcased pieces by 46 craft companies, inspired by the theme of relationships.

Over the years, the craftsmen have grown in number, reinvented themselves and established new collaborations, giving rise to a network of skills and know-how, which culminated in the foundation of a Circuit of virtuous craftsmen, in collaboration with the Cologni Foundation.
